Hyundai Hockey Nation
The Western portion of the Hyundai Hockey Nation tour began in Winnipeg, Manitoba over the weekend of March 15-17. The coaching symposium kick started the weekend’s hockey festivities where Tour Head Coach, Ron Davidson had another fantastic lecture; giving all attending coaches a glimpse into his Ultra Skills training methods. Celebrity coach Mike Keenan followed up with yet another rousing speech; filled with insights taken from his experiences as a Stanley Cup winning coach. Kerry Goulet from Stop Concussions made an impact with his information regarding symptoms and preventative measures to decrease head related injuries.
The player clinics took place at the Southdale Community Center on March 16 and 17. Young athletes were treated to a VIP experience as they entered the arena beneath the Hyundai Hockey Nation inflatable arch. Once inside they were greeted by a friendly registration desk and helpful volunteers willing to carry their hockey gear while escorting them to their dressing room. Parents loved the opportunity to hear Mike Keenan speak to them about the importance of being a positive influence for young athletes and everyone appreciated having Ron Davidson provide instruction to take their skills to the next level. Dry land training was supported by Elite Performance, whose head trainer illustrated the exercises and strategies to improve player performance off the ice. Perhaps the highlight for many of the parents and children participating was the chance to skate with local hero Jennifer Botterill, who demonstrated Ron Davidson’s on ice drills and had her Olympic gold medal on hand for all to take pictures throughout the entire weekend.
Hyundai Hockey Nation staff had an amazing time in Winnipeg and would like to send our thanks to the accommodating staff at the Southdale Community center, volunteers from Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association, and everyone involved this weekend. Thank You!
